Irony

Irony

Irony is an implied discrepancy between what is said and what is meant. At this time I cant remember an ironic situation that happened to me. But my favorite movie has many ironic situations."Blood In Blood Out" The irony is that one of the brothers is very agressive and he makes his cusin start probloms with a rival gang. But his brother gets hurt by the rival gang so they go get revenge and the cuzin goes to jail and the aggressive one goes to the marines. The marine becomes a detective and his cuzin gets out of jail and starts doing robery and the detective ends up shooting his cuzins leg witch gets amputated. Towards the end the detective hates his cuzin for taking advantage of him but his bother makes him relize that everyting that happend to them was because of him. He forced his cuzin to start the problom, its his fault his brother go hurt, and his fault his cuzins in jail, and he shoot if leg. My favorite movie is about family it has gang violence but it has a major act of irony.

In "Richard Cory" by Edwin Arlington Robinson has a very common example of irony. "He was a gentleman from sole to crown," they compare him to a king a polite man from head to toe and a graceful person too."And he was rich--yes, richer than a king--" he was very rich they say he was even richer than a king. "We thought he was everything To make us wish that we were in his place" everyone loved him but they also envied him. They all wish they was him."And Richard Cory, one calm summer night, Went home and put a bullet through his head." That proves that money cant buy happiness. Richard was a loved and envied person and was rich but he killed himself.

In the story "Lamb to the Slaughter" by Roald Dahl Mary Maloney the protagonist loves everything about her husband who happens to be a detective. He comes from work like always, and Mary tries to satisfy his needs. But today is a different day then it usually is he tells her something that changes Mary from wanting to please him to wanting to forget that he just told her. Not even detective Patrick Maloney could find the clues to what was gonna happen. She took a frozen leg of lamb and "Mary Maloney simply walked up behind him and without any pause she swung the big frozen leg of lamb high in the air and brought it down as hard as she could on the back of his head." After that she put the lamb in the oven to cook and she went out bought grocerys and went home called the cops and she acted like she never did it. The other detectives came and Jack Noonan said "had been killed by a blow on the back of the head administered with a heavy blunt instrument, almost certainly a large piece of metal." Mary was begging for the men to eat something, she was trying to be polite "Please, she begged. Please eat it." The men were eating and eating the lamb and as they were eating they were discussing and how Patrick was hit on a head with an object as hard as a sledgehammer and how his skull was shatter to pieces. One of them said "Personally, I think it's right here on the premises. Probably right under our very noses. What you think, Jack?" The irony is that they are detectives trying to find this object that killed Patrick and they did not relize that the object was really under there nose all along. They were actually getting rid of it by eating it. This story is a good one and the irony is very funny and it couldnt get any better then the cops eating away the actual weapon that was used to kill detective Patrick Maloney.

In "The House That Slaves Built"By Gardiner Harris There is irony. First of all The White House was built by crews of black laborers—both slave and free. There were also slaves working in the White House, but other blacks were not allowed in there. Frederick Douglass went three times but the last time they were not letting him in because he was black. Bess Abell, who was the White House social secretary during Lyndon B. Johnson's administration in the 1960's there was a dinner in The White House and Sarah Vaughan was singing. Later they found Sarah sobbing and Abell asked her what was wrong and she replys "There's nothing wrong. This is the most wonderful day of my life. When I first came to Washington, I couldn't get a hotel room, and tonight, I danced with the President." the irony in there is that earlyer sh could not even get a place to sleep and now shes in the most important House in this country dancing with the most important man in this country. But there is much more irony in this story the fact that black people made the White House and blacks were not allowed in there. Blacks struggled and fought for there rights and little by little were showing up in the White House and now The president is Black. The most important person in this country is a black man. Blacks made the White House and few went there now we have a black man a our president living in the White House.

This cartoon is ironic because the old man is reading a book called "What's It To You?". This man asks his what he's reading and when he replys "What's It To You?" he takes it personal and gets mad. The man says "I'll ask one more time ...what are you reading?". Its ironic because the book its actually called "What's It To You?".

Irony has a big role in our life it might be long term or might just be funny but we all had a moment of irony. In "Richard Cory by Edwin Arlington Robinson Richard is a rich man, respectful, and compared to a king. Money cant buy happiness so he committed suicide. In "Lamb to the Slaughter" by Roald Dahl the wife Mary kills her husband wit a frozen lamb leg. When detectives arrive and they cant find the weapon she feeds them the lamb so they actually ate the weapon. In "The House That Slaves Built"By Gardiner Harris the White House was build by black people and as the years pass by they were not allowed in the White House and now our president is black. Irony can be good or it can be bad but it will always affect is in our everyday life.
